Wood engraving

This type of relief print is made by cutting lines and marks into the end grain of a block of hard polished boxwood, and then printing from the inked surface.

The white areas in the print are those that have been cut away, leaving the higher surface of the block to be coated with ink when it is rolled across the block.

The strength and density of the wood allows fine lines to print consistently
